I recently read a story about a little girl who miraculously survived a plane crash that took the life of her sister and both parents. She managed to find her way in the dark, through briar patches, cold weather and rain, to finally find someone to help her. After reading her story, I was reminded of a write up I had recently seen showing a variety of survival and wilderness skills.
I do a good amount of camping throughout the year but I'm no Bear Grylls. But when you think about it, most people don't plan to be in emergency situations. So it's good to have a few skills to recall in the event they're needed. Either way though, it was good to learn a few new ways to start a fire without matches or a lighter.
