"Who We Are"

When a good story is captured and put together the right way, the subject shouldn't really matter to still be engaging.  If any of you know Stuart well enough, you'll find he can be a bit of a critic.  He's taught me the importance of putting together a good, flowing tale that makes sense from start to finish.

I'm not a big hunter, but respect hunters and understand the important role you all play in the grand scheme of the environment.  I also do enjoy a good venison steak.  When done ethically and responsibly, there's nothing wrong with hunting and harvesting animals.

A good friend of mine introduced me to a video made by Donnie Vincent earlier this year, The River's Divide, that had me on the edge of my seat.  When I saw recently that he released another short, I was excited to see what he had come up with.  And it didn't disappoint.

The Early Show

What do you so when you're not fishing? Here's the list: watch fishing videos and films, read books and magazines, search the web, tie flies and yep...go to shows. So first up is the Early Show.

John Loebach started this show a few years ago with the support and help of the ISA and DRIFT and it's a good show for showcasing the talents of local pro tyers, tying groups, service organizations and regional guides. You'll also get to meet product reps, fly shop owners, and spend some money with them.  On the schedule are free casting lessons and guest speakers including one of the best, Steve "Sweet Chili" Martinez, from Indigo guide services. Steve once nearly got whacked when I went to cast a Michigan rig, set-up for roll casting, because I wanted to see how it cast. I'm glad he's still here!

And if you have a kid who has an interest in fly tying, there is a free youth tying clinic with all the materials and equipment provided.

So here's the info on the show and because the show relies on flyers and word of mouth, if you know someone you might like this show, send them the Tippet and Tales link.

Headin' Out!

The rods and reels are all packed, Yeti's full of gyro burgers, cheddar brats and beer, and the car is loaded up.  I'm meeting a couple of buds up near Ludington, MI for a weekend of fishing the Pere Marquette for steelhead and browns, possibly a zombie salmon or two.

If you're heading out or want to learn more about chasing these chrome beauties, visit Jeff Hubbard over at Outfitters North, or Steve Martinez and Kevin Morlock over at Third Coast Fly/Indigo for an updated report or book a day on the water.
